Singer CG590 Review: Commercial Grade Beast on a Budget

If you’re an experienced seamstress and searching for a commercial and sturdier sewing machine on a smaller budget, Singer CG590 would be one of the options to consider.

I think this is a real workspace with a heavy-duty metal interior frame and a durable stainless-steel bedplate. What I like most about this machine is its impressive sewing speed and reliable motor. You can sew through just about any material. But let’s dig deeper.

Singer CG590 review

Numerous features recommend this Singer as one of the best in its category. It features an automatic needle threader, an automatic 4-step buttonhole, and a drop feed for independent motion sewing. Also, the 18 built-in stitches range from basic to decorative, so that you can create any design you set your mind on.

However, this is a mechanical, not computerized machine, if it’s important.

One of the downsides might be that it is a loud machine since it is a commercial device, and the vibration might make you feel uncomfortable.

You will have to know what you are doing and always go with the right thread and needles since if it’s not the case, it can cause serious damage to the machine. But overall, I think you will find this machine simple to operate, and very capable, despite its dimensions.

Singer CG590. FAQ and Troubleshooting

How to oil Singer CG-590?

The plastic outer panels are held by screws. So to clean the machine, you have to remove it starting from the front and to end with the part where the light is and then work your way to the bottom. Remove panels and go through the whole mechanism with sewing machine oil. You may also put a drop on any metal to the metal joint. Don’t lubricate any electronics, circuits and nylon details. Once you’ve done, put all the parts back together.

Singer CG590 accessories

This model comes with a solid set of accessories, including 5 feet (special purpose, zipper, buttonhole, blind hem, satin stitch). It also includes a pack of needles, bobbins (class 66), thread spool caps, soft-sided dust cover, finger guard, foot control, power cord, and the manual with a stitch guide.

Is Singer CG590 really a good one? Our verdict

I believe this is a reliable and long-lasting sewing machine. Also, it has an excellent design, and it is quieter than other heavy-duty devices on the market. It will help you sew through several layers due to its impressively powerful motor. And even though it might seem bulky at first, you will manage it smoothly after a couple of sewing sessions.

The number of stitches is more than enough for most of the tasks you might want to work on. And it’s super fast too. Affordable price and decent accessories kit both are making Singer CG590 a great addition to any seamstress toolbox. So I really think it’s worth considering this machine if you are into tough, speedy and durable models. ( And you can also check my guide on heavy-duty sewing machines for more options).
